Review of Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet

This brief review of Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Red Wine is unusual for me. It's my first review of wine, even though I've been a red wine drinker for years. Living in Europe for a few years, I got accustomed to drinking great wines at low prices (from a USA perspective). European countries indeed keep their best wine "in-house."

There's a seasoned woodiness on the finish of this Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet that works well with the dryness of the Cabernet palate. In this first tasting, most of the bourbon influence is noticeable toward the mid-palate and the finish. Interestingly, this Cabernet Sauvignon seems fruitier than a typical Cab. I had to work hard to distinguish the woody and mildly brown sugar influence of the bourbon on the back end. This lack of clarity may have resulted from a recent cold.

Review of Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Red Wine

The fruitiness of this Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Red Wine was the most noticeable part of this tasting experience. The grape flavor combined with other dark fruits was prominent during the tasting. Since this is my first experience with a Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon, I wonder if this is their typical profile.

Having said all of that, the tasting experience was enjoyable, and that bottle went quickly, too quickly. This experience may have put me on the path to trying other bourbon-barrel-aged dark red wines. Thank you, Robert Mondavi Private Selection Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
