What is a Sleigh Rye'd Cocktail?

The Sleigh Rye'd Cocktail is a delightful blend of rye whiskey, spiced cranberry syrup, and a hint of orange. It's a winter twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail, with the addition of cranberry and spices to give it that extra festive flair.

Ingredients

Option 1

  • 2 ounces of rye whiskey
  • 1 ounce of spiced cranberry syrup
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • Orange peel, for garnish

Option 2

  • 1 ½ -  2 ounces. Straight Rye Whiskey
  • ½ ounces Smoked Pear Shrub
  • ½ ounces egg white
  • ½ ounces simple syrup
  • ½ ounces lemon juice
  • Garnish: Angostura bitters & rosemary sprign Straight Rye Whiskey

Steps

Option 1

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the cranberries, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until the cranberries burst and the syrup thickens slightly.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool. Once cooled, strain the syrup to remove the cranberry solids and spices.
  3. In a mixing glass, combine the rye whiskey, spiced cranberry syrup, and orange bitters. Fill the glass with ice and stir until well chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a twist of orange peel.
  5. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your Sleigh Rye'd Cocktail!

To make the spiced cranberry syrup, you'll need:

  • 1 cup of cranberries
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise

Option 2

PREPARATION: Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker (no ice). Dry shake for at least five seconds. Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously until cold. Double strain into a coupe glass and garnish with Angostura bitters and a rosemary sprig.
