Oak is a special and unique tree that bears acorns. This tree also produces lumber which is a critical component in making casks or barrels of whiskey. Bourbon is aged in oak barrels because of its unique physical and chemical character and often takes on the nature of this wood. The resulting taste might be referred to as oaky.
