Named after Kentucky native and U.S. Senator John G. Carlisle. Carlisle had a long and decorated political career including US Senator (1890 โ€“ 1893), US Secr. of Treasury (1893 โ€“ 1897), and Kentucky Lt. Governor (1871 โ€“ 1875).
