84 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of Maker's Mark FAE-01 2021 Limited Release

Maker's Mark FAE 01 was very good from the initial pour. I had been sitting on this bottle for a while. However, after tasting it, I knew I had waited way too long to open this self-indulgent, yet youthful, work of art.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 85

Beautiful rich traditional oak and heavy caramel nose. Virtually no ethanol smell. Sweet oak and dried fruit nose. The longer you let this poured glass sit, the more the oak reveals itself on the nose.

Palate Review - Rating: 83

Its mouthfeel is decadent and suitably hot. The palate is very oaky, lusciously sweet, heavy, and caramelized. It’s amazing how much flavor this has for a relatively young, 6 year, bourbon. When the result is heat and sweetness, combined with some spiciness, that appeals to my tastes. The lovely oak is dominant on the palate. It is followed by sweetness and sharpness that seems to be the result of the 110.6 proof. The blend of all three is beautiful and artistic. However, some youth seems to shine through as well.

Finish Review - Rating: 85

The finish is long. It lingers with a bit of spice, but the start of the finish is sweet.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 79

I am not certain how unique the profile is, but it's a great bourbon and that makes it different.

Value Review - Rating: 85

If I remember correctly, I paid $59.99 for this a while back and it is well worth the price. The latest version, FAE-02, retailed $5 more in Georgia.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
