Review of Art of Alchemy Blended Straight Whiskeys Small Batch Blend No.2

Nose

The nose of Art of Alchemy Blended Straight Whiskeys Small Batch Blend No.2 has a dusty, brown sugar and mint aroma that is somewhat mild. There's a floral mint nature to the aroma that clearly is coming from the rye component.

Palate and Finish

The palate of Art of Alchemy Blended Straight Whiskeys Blend No.2 is aggressively sweet, spicy, and bold. The mint notes I experienced on the nose are even more potent as I drink this. This 65% rye, 35% bourbon blend at 110 proof is a unique tasting that will cause debate among those who experience it. The mint chocolate characteristics resemble a York Peppermint Patty with a bit of salted caramel sweetness. The saltiness is evident. I like that the oak is more prominant in Blend 2 than Blend 1. I am still working through Art of Alchemy Blended Straight Whiskeys Blend No. 2's taste profile since it is unusual.

Mash Bill of Art of Alchemy Blended Straight Whiskies Blend No. 2

Once the whiskey hits the mid-palate, the heat ramps up all the way through the finish.

Mash Bill

Select barrels from Georgia and Tennessee were blended with a Kentucky High Rye to yield a 65% rye and 35% bourbon blend.

  • 4-year rye whiskey from Kentucky containing 80% rye, 12% corn, and 8% barley.
  • 9-year bourbon whiskey from Georgia containing 80% corn, 10% rye, 5% wheat, and 5% barley.
  • 10-year bourbon whiskey from Tennessee containing 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% barley.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
