Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 78

Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Bottled-In-Bond begins with a soft and elegant nose that opens with a tinge of spice, followed by buttercream. It smells creamy and mildly rich, but the aroma is subtle, incorporating mild honey and cola. You get a little cherry and red berries mixed with cinnamon spice as the scent settles in. There is little to no ethanol on the nose.

Palate Review - Rating: 78

Once I tasted it and it hit my tongue, I expected a wave of intense flavor that never came. The palate is dry with a little vanilla extract, muted brown sugar (even a little leathery), and a little dark chocolate, but only mildly sweet. Mint and baking spices, especially peppercorn and clove. Based on the nose, I expected an experience that was a little more robust in flavor. The flavor almost suggests something less than 100-proof bottled-in-bond bourbon. I wanted to know if my palate was off, so I opened a 91-proof bourbon that I know has flavor. It is not my palate today. Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Bottled-In-Bond is a little delicate and lacks flavor on the first pour. However, the more you sip on it, the spicier it becomes. This is a simple and easy-to-sip bourbon. Do not expect complexity here, just a pleasant and easy-tasting experience, especially if you prefer more robust bourbons. For my palate, it's a little too dry. However, others may like that profile.

Finish Review - Rating: 78

This finish is more of the palate, with a simple baking spice being dominant. There is little to no sweetness on the finish nor on the palate of Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Bottled-In-Bond. The length of the spicy heat is moderate to long. That is surprising, considering the palate was not very rich.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 75

Profile-wise there is little unique about Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Bottled-In-Bond. Still, it's a good bourbon.

Value Review - Rating: 80

At an MSRP of $49.99, this is a quality purchase. I hope I'm not being to hard on this bourbon.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
