77 General Review of Blanton's Single Barrel

The packaging of Blanton's Single Barrel is exceptional. The bottle and label designs are close to the best, if not the best, in the bourbon market. However, how does it taste, and isn't that what really matters? Let's examine Blanton's.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 79

Blanton's starts with a sweet candy ethanol aroma followed by cinnamon spice. Any sweetness that was once there initially dissipates quickly and is overrun by mild cinnamon spice. After I let it sit a little bit to jot down my notes, I picked it back up, and there was a hint of mint, strangely. However, mild cinnamon and baking spice dominate the nose.

Palate Review - Rating: 77

On the first sip, the palate is bold and almost a bit harsh for something that is only 93 proof. It drinks much hotter than its proof. I nose it a little bit more and then take my second sip, which ends up being a repeat of the first one. Of course, with this being a single barrel, you’re never sure what you were going to get. Still, there is nothing smooth about this.

Finish Review - Rating: 75

The finish is of moderate length. Unfortunately, the finish has no distinct flavors other than the ethanol heat rye, which leaves a lot to desire.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 77

The design of the bottle and label are pretty darn cool. It is EASILY the best bottle design in whiskey history. It’ll never be topped. However, it's what's in the bottle that genuinely matters. But I’ll give it a few extra point for the bottle.

Value Review - Rating: 75

These days, Blantons is allocated almost everywhere so it was almost impossible to pay retail for it. With this in mind, it is not worth the value nor the trouble of trying to find it. However, I will judge this on the retail price.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
