Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 82

The nose of Chattanooga Whiskey Tawney Port Cask Finish is very mild; however, it is wonderfully complex with the notes of dried fruits (like prunes), brown sugar, and a lovely buttery richness.

Palate Review - Rating: 77

At 47.5%, this tawny port cask finished bourbon drinks hotter than its proof level. At the same time, the pleasant aromas of the nose are duplicated on the palate. Ethanol, a little bit of malted milk chocolate, and black pepper wine are all noticeable on the palate. Chattanooga Whiskey Tawney Port Cask Finish is a complex bourbon, but unfortunately, it is not the best-tasting combination. There's something incomplete about the result.

After the first sip, if you let the bourbon sit in the glass for a while, some of the dark fruit (prunes) and milk chocolate come through on the palate, but it is not enough to put this in the upper echelon of finished bourbons because of its youthful harshness and the way the pepper works with the other flavors.

Finish Review - Rating: 76

The same notes on the palate are in the finish as well. While the taste is not very pleasant, the warmth of the finish is excellent. The mouthfeel is pretty good, but the pepper ethanol taste is not.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 82

There certainly is a measure of uniqueness in Chattanooga Whiskey Tawney Port Cask Finish bourbon, especially when you see the mash bill's combination of elements. B001 - Dried Fruit, Spice. B005 - Butterscotch, Pastry. SB055 - Chocolate, Brown Sugar. R18025 - Caramel, Honey, Citrus. R18016 - Toasted Oak, Red Fruit. R17113 - Dried Fruit, Jam.

Value Review - Rating: 79

Acceptable.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
