Elijah Craig Single Barrel 9-Year Private Barrel Bourbon Review

Nose

The aroma opens with the cinnamon candy coating you find on candied apples, followed by soft oak and an ethanol tingle that tickles the nose hairs. There’s also a very appealing floral undercurrent that I wasn’t expecting.

Palate

Oh, this is good! Cinnamon and sweet caramel mingle with a touch of honey and charred sugar. The flavors are intense, with a wonderful heaviness and viscosity to the mouthfeel. This drinks every bit of its 126.5 proof, and the flavor intensity matches it.

Finish

The spice ramps up on the finish, settling into a moderate heat that lingers for a very long time. Clove, black pepper, and cinnamon leave a lasting impression on the back end.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
