83 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of FEW Rye

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a fabulous whiskey that exceeds your expectations. That is the case with Few Straight Rye Whiskey. Sadly, Few Spirits is not a very visible brand in Georgia, where I live. In fact, I only decided to purchase this whiskey because I was focusing on craft distilleries that used their own distillate. I am so glad I stumbled upon this brand because their rye, produced by this Evanston, Illinois distillery, outperformed my anticipations. Few Straight Rye is a lovely 3-year-old rye mashed, fermented, distilled, and bottled by Few Spirits.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 88

The nose Few Straight Rye Whiskey is scrumptious, featuring rye spice, clove, and honey brown sugar. Its aroma is rich and thick. It temptingly draws you in from the time you open the bottle. A little bit of lemony light fruit is present during the nosing, while the rye spice is always present but complemented with a bit of black pepper. I can nose this whiskey forever. Is that plums? What a wonderful nosing experience.

Palate Review - Rating: 84

The palate is dense and moderately oily. Few Straight Rye Whiskey is a little dryer than the nose would suggest, but you can still taste some of the honey sweetness. This leathery and buttery whiskey features rye spice, subdued brown sugar, and a tiny bit of peppercorn. There’s a beautiful balance between spiciness and sweetness. A slight saltiness is present as well.

This is a leisurely and comfy rye sipper with enough flavor and spice, even at only 93 proof, to keep the neat-drinking whiskey enthusiast curious.

Finish Review - Rating: 78

The short finish goes peppery, with lightly salted molasses.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 80

Every rye these days has its own unique characteristics. Few Straight Rye Whiskey is no exception. It differentiates itself with its complex nosing experience. It also distinguishes itself with its remarkable balance between sweetness and spiciness.

Value Review - Rating: 85

With a retail price of around $59.99, this is an excellent purchase and tasting experience for the price point. I have seen it for $10 less.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
