80 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength Bourbon

This first pour of Lux Row Distillers' Old Ezra 7 is good. It has a rich nose and palate. Spicy, spicy, spicy, sweet, and rich traditional palate. It certainly drinks its 117 proof, so it’s not for the faint of heart. By the way, the label is awesome and adds to the flavor (just kidding).

Because of its high proof and distinct spicy flavor, this would be a great cocktail bourbon.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 80

The nose is a very traditional caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon spice. Initially, the ethanol has a little bit of weight but even then the flavorful aroma comes through. The aroma is rich; dark cherries.

Palate Review - Rating: 82

As I mentioned earlier, the lively palate is spicy and hot but good. The heat does not mask the woody cinnamon candy flavor. I expect this to open up a bit over time since this is only the neck pour. While I typically wait a couple of pours before reviewing, I jumped right in with Old Ezra 7.

Finish Review - Rating: 80

The finish is long, hot, and spice-heavy.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 75

While its taste profile is not unique, it does what it does well.

Value Review - Rating: 82

It is hard to measure the value of this because the price is all over the place where I live in Georgia. Typically, you will see it between $59.99 and $69.99, but retail is around $49.99. However, I have never seen it on the shelves at that price. Still, I will gauge Old Ezra 7 by its retail price. You rarely see a cask strength bourbon at $49.99 or less these days.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
