Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 84

While it is not overpowering, the nose of Old Forrester 1920 has a captivating dark caramel and creamy sugar aroma. There is no ethanol to be found, only sweetness. As with most Brown-Forman bourbons, a sugary fruitiness lingers: in this case, lingering well below the dark caramel. My only complaint is that this beautiful aroma is milder than I prefer.

Palate Review - Rating: 84

That rich and creamy dark caramel intermingled with spice is the first thing you taste on the palate. But even more noticeable is the oily nature of this bourbon. This viscosity separates 1920 and 1910 from the other Old Forester Whiskey Row bourbons. There is an almost perfect balance of nutty black pepper spice and creamy sweetness.

Finish Review - Rating: 82

The length of the finish is in the medium range and seems to be dominated by black pepper spice. This boldness lingers on the tongue, the top of the palate, and the esophagus.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 82

The Brown-Foreman profile is unique, and each of the Whiskey Row Series has that profile but with different characteristics. Old Forester 1920, because of its uniqueness, is always considered one of the best buys for bourbons under $60.

Value Review - Rating: 86

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style bourbon of the top buys for bourbons under $60.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
