89 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye

With Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye, you have to let this open up. It is HOT initially, but eventually becomes one of the best pours on the market. Initially, I got a mild red hot candied cinnamon and mild caramel aroma that lies under the cinnamon of Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye. Even the rye is mild as it mingles with the other aromas.

The palate is unabashed peppery rye. It’s a little creamy and hot, but eventually opens up with some sweetness. However, it does not start as hot as Old Forester's bourbon equivalent.

These are the quick notes. Now for the review.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 94

At the start, this wonderful rye has a distinct and robust black pepper rye spice nose. As Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye sits in the glass for a while, its nose becomes more and more engaging. Rich, creamy caramel overtakes the clove, black pepper, and mild cinnamon spice. Old Forester's nose seems to get more decadent the longer it sits in the glass.

Palate Review - Rating: 94

The palate is unabashed peppery rye. It’s a little creamy, hot, and bold. However, it does not run as hot as Old Forester's bourbon equivalent.

Finish Review - Rating: 86

Even though Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye runs hot, the finish is not as spirited as you would think. It is seductive in the mouth, but as soon as the heat gets to the throat, it becomes a little mild.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 85

This is a rye drinker's rye.

Value Review - Rating: 85

A good $79.99 value.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
