75 General Review of Rebel Cask Strength Single Barrel (Special Limited Edition), Batch 7533028, 11/2/2016

I'm not sure if my review reflects my anticipation of this Rebel Cask Strength Single Barrel or not, but I tasted a distillery sample a few months before this was released. Frankly, it was one of the best-tasting samples I've ever had. Unfortunately, the store pick I purchased, which was from the same location as the sample I tasted, did not reflect the sample's taste.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 78

Initially, the nose is all ethanol. After letting it sit for 30 seconds, nothing but a moderate cinnamon nose was revealed. After letting it sit for a few more seconds, the cinnamon came through much stronger. It just goes to show that you don't want to immediately jump into drinking a bourbon. Tasting is a complete experience, and it starts with getting the full experience from the aroma of the whiskey.

Palate Review - Rating: 79

This is my second pour of rebel CASK strength. On the initial tasting of this 2nd pour, there is very little taste, just heat. Next sip, I get very strong black pepper. Well, that’s strange did I taste a little bit of Okie sweetness? Still, I expected a little more sweetness from this wheated Bourbon. I tasted a distiller sample a few months before this was released and the sample was considerably sweeter and had more buttery viscosity. This single barrel was lacking in both.

Finish Review - Rating: 72

Unfortunately, the finish is relatively short although it lingers at an extremely low level for a moderate length of time.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 72

This is very little to distinguish or separate this bourbon from similar bourbons.

Value Review - Rating: 70

This was a highly anticipated release and the retail price reflected that.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
