83 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of Barrell Bourbon Batch 33

Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 review. Barrell has upped their straight bourbon game, at least for my palate. Admittedly, I am a huge Barrell fan, but I have not been overly enthusiastic about Barrell’s non-cask finished whiskeys (straight bourbons). I know Batch 32 received good reviews from many, but Batch 32 was just so-so for me. However, Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 straight bourbon blend is a wonderfully balanced and rich tasting experience that makes me excited again for Barrell's straight bourbons. Here is my review...

Detailed Tasting Notes

Nose Review - Rating: 86

The rye influence is initially evident on the nose with an early mint and light fruit aroma. Then, a cinnamon and rich nutty spice takeover. This is closely followed by a warm mild brown sugar aroma that intermingles perfectly with the baking spices. Mild ethanol. The theme is a beautiful rich but not overwhelming sweet cinnamon spice nose. It takes a while, but the caramel and sweetness become more noticeable the longer Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 sits in the glass

Palate Review - Rating: 85

Initial impressions of the palate of Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 are that it’s a wonderfully smooth, rich, flavorful, and moderately oily 116.6-proof bourbon. Not overly spicy…just right. This is a beautiful blend of sweetness and spiciness. The palate seems to reflect all of the notes on the nose but adds some very mild cherry, chocolate, and a dash of almond This is very good. Strange, but Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 drinks much lower than its proof, but in a way you'll appreciate.

Finish Review - Rating: 83

A nice moderately long baking spice-oriented finish that mirrors the rest of the experience's notes. While the baking spice wins the battle, the sweetness puts up a good fight.

Uniqueness Review - Rating: 80

If you are a Wild Turkey Rare Breed lover but want a straight bourbon that is more refined and balanced with a tad bit more sweetness, this will blow you away. Barrell Bourbon Batch 33 is much better than Barrell Bourbon Batch 32, IMO.

Value Review - Rating: 80

Decent value, especially after considering the tasting experience.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
