Four Gate Andalusia Key is a wonderfully decadent and sensual Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is finished in Oloroso Sherry and dark rum casks. I do not that the purchase of a $200 bottle lightly, so I was thrilled when Andalusia Key lived up to its price.
Nose
On the nose, Andalusia Key Bourbon has a rich buttercream and brown sugar aroma with sweet dried honeyed fig notes. A small amount of ethanol is also present but blends wonderfully with an appealing musty oak. The dense aroma is alluring.
Palate
The palate is even more delectably rich, creamy, and sweet than the nose. Even though you feel the heat of this 121.2 proof bourbon, it is dangerously easy to drink because of its robust flavors. Brown sugar, molasses, and dark sweet dried raisins balanced out by the wonderfully spicy heat. The creamy sweetness draws you in. Mixed in with all of these notes are an appealing boldness and smokiness. This evidently comes from the dark rum casks. On top of that, an oily mouth feel rounds out this almost flawless tasting experience.
Finish
The finish is a perfect ending to this sensual tasting adventure. The finish of Four Gate Andalusia Key Bourbon is not overly hot but wonderfully warm and provides a big radiating hug as it meanders elegantly down your throat. Any dryness is evident only on the finish.
